Demand for second-hand foreign cars imported to Ukraine rises 26% in May - Ukravtoprom

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian car fleet in May was replenished with 19,300 second-hand passenger cars imported from abroad, which is up 26% year-on-year, but 2% less than in April this year, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukravtoprom association as saying on social media.

As reported, new passenger cars registered in May, according to the association, totaled 5,500, up 8% year-on-year, that is, the demand for imported second-hand cars exceeded the demand for new ones 3.5-fold.

Gasoline cars continued to constitute the largest share in the segment of second-hand foreign cars with a large margin last month (49%), followed by diesel vehicles (23%), electric cars (17%), compressed gas cars (6%), and hybrids (5%).

Volkswagen Golf remains the top imported second-hand model with 1,049 registrations.

The top 10 most popular models also include Renault Megane (806), Skoda Octavia (640), Volkswagen Passat (569), Volkswagen Tiguan (552), Nissan Leaf (492), Nissan Rogue (482), Audi Q5 (457), Tesla Model 3 (404), and Audi A4 (397).

The average age of used cars that switched to Ukrainian license plates in May is nine years.

In total, nearly 95,000 used cars underwent the first registration in Ukraine in January-May, which is up 36% year-on-year.

As reported, for the whole of last year, the registrations of second-hand cars imported from abroad dropped 45% year-on-year to 214,400.
