EU, Moldova sign agreement on security, defense partnership

BRUSSELS. May 21 (Interfax) - The European Union and Moldova have signed the first agreement of its kind on a security and defense partnership, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell said on Tuesday.

"Moldova has become the first country to sign a security and defense partnership with the European Union," Borrell said at a press conference in Brussels following an EU-Moldova Association Council meeting.

"This is the first country, many others will follow in order to create the network of friends that builds a strong security and defense partnership," Borrell said.

Among other things, the agreement implies cooperation in ensuring cybersecurity and opposing disinformation, he said.
