Ukraine will sow grains and oilseeds in 2024 in volumes sufficient to meet both domestic and export demand - Ministry of Agrarian Policy

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - Ukraine will sow grains and oilseeds in 2024 in volumes sufficient to satisfy both domestic needs and export demand, Ukrainian media reported, citing acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky.

"Ukraine (...) continues to be a reliable exporter of agricultural products and to play an important role in ensuring global food security. Ukrainian farmers reaped a good harvest in 2023. This year it is planned to sow enough to meet the domestic needs of Ukrainians and that of export," Vysotsky said on the ministry's Telegram channel.

"Ukraine remains among the leading exporters of grains and oilseeds," Vysotsky said.

The harvest of these crops in the country topped 80 million tonnes last year. Ukrainian farmers exported almost $22 billion worth of products, he said.

The Ukrainian maritime corridor "is showing good results," with 87% of all agricultural products exported from the ports of Greater Odessa, the acting minister said.

Vysotsky said that about 20 million hectares of agricultural land are currently being used in Ukraine for growing grains and oilseeds, 13 million of which will be sown with spring crops.
