Turkmen president travels to Russia

ASHGABAT. May 8 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has departed for a working visit to Russia, where he will take part in a ceremony celebrating the 79th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War as a guest of honor at Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation, the Turkmen state news agency said.

The Turkmen president's visit to Russia is yet another step on the path of consistent development of constructive relations between the two countries, which have gained a new momentum and dimension in modern times, it said.

The 1941-1945 war between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany is an unforgettable period in Russia's and Turkmenistan's common history, and victory in it is a landmark event consolidating the nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, it said.
