Ukrainian Railways increases freight shipments 29% and up 1.5-fold for export in Jan-April

MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways shipped 59.9 million tonnes of goods in January-April 2024, which is up 28.7% year-on-year, the company said in a statement quoted by Ukrainian media.

In particular, export freight traffic rose 48.8% to 30.4 million tonnes.

Ukrainian Railways has set higher freight traffic, including that to the foreign market, as one of its priorities in 2024, the company's chairman of the board, Yevgeny Lyashchenko, was quoted in the statement as saying.

Among the main goods that the company has shipped for export since the beginning of this year is grain with 12.9 million tonnes, iron and manganese ore with 12.5 million tonnes, ferrous metals with 1.6 million tonnes, and building materials with 867,000 tonnes.

As previously reported, Ukrainian Railways shipped 44.69 million tonnes of goods in January-March 2024, which is 28.7% more than in the first quarter of 2023. At the same time, export shipments accounted for 23.9 million tonnes, up 50.6% year-on-year.
