Ukrenergo reports energy sector problems

MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - Energy facilities were damaged in the Ivano-Frankovsk, Lvov and Dnepropetrovsk regions of Ukraine in the early hours of Saturday, Ukrainian media said, citing the Ukrenergo Electricity Transmission System Operator.

An Ukrenergo power transmission line in western Ukraine was shut down by the safety system, it said.

As of Saturday morning, power consumption dropped by practically a quarter because of the weekend and sunny weather, compared to April 26, yet a shortage of electricity persisted in certain hours.

Power supply restrictions are in effect in the Kharkov region all day along, in addition to restricted power supply to industrial enterprises in Krivoi Rog of the Dnepropetrovsk region.

Equipment of a power substation of the Odessa regional electric company was turned off for technological reasons, causing a power outage in households. Power supply resumed within a few hours.

Ukrenergo reported electricity imports from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova in the amount of 6,629MW/h all through the day, except for nighttime, which is almost twice less than imported on Friday. The operator pointed out that imports reached 1,640MW in certain hours, while the technical capacity for electricity exports from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova stands at 1,700MW.

Ukraine exports electricity on Saturday: a total of 1,158MW/h were exported to Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova in the morning and day hours of active operation of solar power plants.

Media said, citing the Energy Ministry, that domestic generation, commercial imports and emergency assistance from Poland, Slovakia and Romania met the demand for power supply over the past day. Ukraine gave emergency assistance to Poland by taking excessive electricity from the Polish power grid. According to the ministry, the emergency assistance amounted to less than 1% of the daily power consumption.

Also media said, citing the Energy Ministry, that bad weather cut power supply to 3,714 clients in 28 populated localities in the Sumy region. Another 3,801 clients in 64 populated localities in the Sumy region are having a power outage.

There is no power supply to 45,800 clients in 95 populated localities in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk region, 35,500 clients in the Kharkov region, 1,840 clients in 32 populated localities in the Chernigov region, 640 clients in the Dnepropetrovsk regions, and 245 households and 30 legal entities in the Nikolayev region.

Some 1,500 clients in the Kharkov region have a blackout due to the shutdown of a power transmission line for technological reasons.
