Almost 3,000 household plots flooded in Russia's Tyumen region

TYUMEN. April 27 (Interfax) - The number of household plots in the flooded area of Russia's Tyumen region due to overflowing rivers is on the rise.

In total, 2,875 household plots, 184 residential houses, and 523 countryside plots were flooded, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on Saturday. Twenty-two roads were also flooded.

As of April 26, 2,844 homestead plots, 180 residential houses, 523 countryside plots, and 19 road sections were flooded in the region.

"Over 5,100 residents were evacuated. As many as 607 people, including 217 children, are staying at temporary accommodation centers," the Emergency Situations Ministry said on Saturday.

A state of emergency has been in effect in the region since April 8 due to the threat of flooding.

On April 25, the water in the Ishim river in the village of Abatskoye in the Tyumen region reached a historic mark of 1,150 centimeters, exceeding its 2017 high. On April 27, the water rose to 1,199 centimeters by 10:00 a.m. local time. An emergency evacuation was declared in Abatskoye on Saturday.

The level of the Ishim river remains at 1,199 centimeters along a section of the Tyumen-Omsk R-402 federal highway in the Abatskoye district as of Saturday noon, Tyumen region governor Alexander Moor said on his Telegram channel on Saturday morning. "There is a lot of water, and the load on hydraulic facilities is large. We have built up the embankment in good time, there is a room for height, but the water is seeping through the road itself," Moor said.

Equipment was currently working on the highway and that specialists were doing their utmost to prevent water from bursting through, he said.

Road builders and rescue workers have reinforced the ground embankment on the R-402 highway in the Abatskoye district overnight, where a leak was detected on Friday evening. The traffic on the highway was restricted due to this.
