Kazakhstan wants adoption of UN convention against int'l terrorism - Security Council secretary
BISHKEK/NUR-SULTAN. May 15 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan consistently supports the adoption of a comprehensive UN convention against international terrorism on the basis of the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions, and the provisions of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, Kazakh Security Council Secretary and presidential aide Kalmukhanbet Kasymov said in Bishkek.
Kasymov attended the 14th annual meeting between the Security Council secretaries of the SCO countries in the capital of Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday, a report posted on the Kazak presidential website said.
During the meeting in Bishkek, Kasymov also spoke in favor of prompt implementation of the initiative of Kazakhstan's first president Nursultan Nazarbayev on the Code of Conduct to rid the world of terrorism. This has now been signed by some 80 countries, the report said.
According to the report, the meeting addressed issues relating to security and stability in the SCO.
"The heads of the delegations of the SCO countries exchanged opinions on further development of cooperation in such spheres as prevention of terrorism, separatism and extremism, illegal weapons and narcotics turnover, transnational organized crime, and international information security," the report said.
Kasymov additionally had bilateral talks with the heads of the delegations of India, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on the sidelines of the meeting" on issues relating to strengthening and broadening cooperation at the level of the administrations of the Security Councils of the SCO countries," it said.
