Eavesdropping uncovered in Kyiv not linked to any Ukrainian presidential candidates - SBU
KYIV. March 4 (Interfax) - Operative measures, which are underway in Belorusskaya Street in Kyiv, are in no way linked to any Ukrainian presidential candidates, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) said.
"The SBU is really undertaking operative measures at 26 Belorusskaya Street in Kyiv. We responsibly say that these measures are in no way linked to any Ukrainian presidential candidates or their entourage. No offices, to which candidates have any relation, are registered in this building," the SBU wrote on Facebook on Monday.
All of the measures are underway on the basis of the court ruling regarding a person, which is in no way connected to the electoral campaign, according to the special service.
The Kyiv police reported earlier in the day that it is looking into the information about the installment of the unknown technical equipment near an office of Ukrainian presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky in Belorusskaya Street in the Ukrainian capital. A security guard of the presidential candidate has discovered this equipment on the roof of an apartment block.
The information about finding this equipment was submitted to the Ukrainian prosecutor's service and the SBU and was put on the unified register of applications and statements of the district police department.
The equipment that has been found is designed for eavesdropping, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said. "The Kyiv police have discovered some bugging devices under the office of presidential candidate Zelensky. The investigation is underway. Where is a line between the rivalry for the post and a crime?" the minister wrote on Twitter.
The equipment, which was found near Zelensky's office, is intended for eavesdropping, Anton Herashchenko, a member of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry board and MP from the People's Front faction, said.
