Three members of terror cell in Norilsk get prison terms
KRASNOYARSK. Oct 10 (Interfax) - The Far East District Military Court has convicted three residents of Norilsk, in Russia's Krasnoyarsk territory, of complicity in terrorism and calls in favor of terrorist activities, the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service's (FSB) local branch said.
Each man received a nine-year sentence in a high-security penitentiary, it said.
FSB officers earlier detained three members of a terrorist cell that was active in Norilsk and supported the ideology of the Islamic State (ISIL) international terrorist organization, which is banned in Russia.
"During the search operation, it was established that this cell's members recruited and encouraged residents of the Krasnoyarsk territory to go to a zone of fighting to take part in armed conflicts on the side of terrorists. Furthermore, they publicly called for committing terrorist acts," the press service said.
Communications equipment, extremist literature, and bank cards used to transfer money abroad to financially support international terrorists there were seized from the locations where the cell held its meetings and from its members' places of residence, it said.
