Child disappearances in Russia increasing
MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - There is a growing number of disappearances of small children in Russia; often they simply leave home due to their parents' negligence, the Investigative Committee said.
"The number of children disappearing without a trace has increased in several regions of Russia this year. According to statistics, already in the first half of the year there was a growing number of reports of disappearances of children - over 6,500, which is 7% more than in the same period of last year," a statement of the Investigative Committee press service said, which was received by Interfax on Wednesday.
The statement said that the overwhelming majority of such cases end well. Children are found, which a tested pattern of cooperation between law enforcement bodies, the Emergency Situations' Ministry, volunteers, and activist groups facilitates.
The Investigative Committee said that searches employ its entire criminalistics potential, including drones, infrared imagers, positioning devices, sonar, and NLJ detectors.
"Many cases of children's disappearances could be prevented if adults demonstrated due attention and care. Sometimes, it is precisely their carelessness and shortsightedness that lead to unfavorable and traumatizing consequences for children," the statement said.
In every incident involving a child investigators thoroughly analyze the causes and conditions of their death. All circumstances are studied thoroughly when searches for children end happily as well, it said.
