Scientist Pokushalov transferred from custody to house arrest in Novosibirsk
NOVOSIBIRSK. April 15 (Interfax) - Novosibirsk's Central District Court on Monday changed the measure of restraint imposed on Yevgeny Pokushalov, deputy director of the Academician Meshalkin National Medical Research Center who is charged with fraud and money laundering, an Interfax correspondent reported.
"The court has ruled to change Yevgeny Anatolyevich Pokushalov's measure of restraint by transferring him from custody to house arrest until June 15," Judge Ruslan Frolov said.
The court considered the relevant request, which was lodged by a prosecutor, behind closed doors. Journalists were allowed to attend only the pronouncement of the operative part of the ruling.
It was reported earlier that the case deals with the embezzlement of over 1.3 billion rubles whilst conducting bids in which victory was guaranteed to certain companies, in 2015-2018.
On February 22, Novosibirsk's Central District Court imposed a measure of restraint in the form of arrest on Pokushalov.
Several dozen of his colleagues and patients, as well as the director of the Academician Meshalkin National Medical Research Center, Russian Academy of Sciences Member Alexander Karaskov, came to support the scientist at the court.
